About the Lotus Temple :

The Lakshmi Narayan Temple or the Birla Temple as it is popularly known enshrines Lord Vishnu  the preserver of the Hindu Trinity. The Temple is one of the major attractions of the capital city - Delhi.

Architechture :

The temple is designed in the Orissan style, with tall curved towers capped by large amalakas (circular ribbed motif at the summit of a temple tower). The exterior is faced with the white marble and red sandstone typical of Delhis Mughal architecture. The interior court is overlooked by two-storey verandahs on three sides; there are gardens and fountains at the rear. The profusion of sculptures, idols, spires and jalis, the Birla Mandir in Delhi is also considered as splendor in terms of its architecture.

The highest tower in the temple is 165 ft high. The temple complex also has Geeta Bhavan, a hall adorned with paintings depicting Indian mythology and a Buddha temple, with fresco paintings on the life of Buddha. The walls of the entire complex exhibit paintings of the artists from Jaipur. An artificial mountainous landscape, with fountains and waterfalls, has been created as the backdrop of the temple. The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated with a special fervor here. The white marble and red sandstone temple has multiple 'swastikas' on display. There are shrines of other deities in the complex, such as those dedicated to Goddess Durga and Lord Shiva.

Climate :

During the summers the average maximum temperature is 40°C and minimum temperature is 25ºC. The monsoon arrives the city in early July and continues till the end of September.

The temperature in winters varies between 21°C to 5°C. January is the coldest month when the temerature drops to a minimum of 0 °C.

Best Season / Time To Visit Birla Temple :

For Sightseeing, the best season to visit Delhi is between October to March. Summers in Delhi are very hot and it is not recommended to visit it during May, June or July.

Delhi Transport Corporation and Road Transport Corporations of the neighboring States provide frequent bus services through Air Conditioned, Deluxe and Ordinary Coaches. Buses from all the major places in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are available for getting to Delhi.
